London Dynamo is committed to ensuring the cycling-related welfare and safety of all its members. We are an inclusive club where all members should feel happy and safe to participate in all our activities. We welcome anyone interested in cycling, regardless of sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, or other beliefs. The welfare of our under-18 riders is especially important, and standard checks are required for members in youth and junior-related roles.
The club is run entirely by volunteers, and members are strongly encouraged to take a proactive role in addressing welfare-related matters. If you have any concerns, you can contact our Welfare Officer in confidence. Alternatively, you can contact our Chairman or British Cycling (tel 0161 274 2082 or out of hours 0161 274 2002).
Welfare-related issues may include, but are not limited to:
We believe that everyone involved in the club should have the opportunity to participate in an enjoyable, safe environment, experiencing the fun, challenge, and sense of achievement inherent in cycling. We are committed to making sure that all members feel welcome, included, and protected from abuse, maltreatment, or misconduct during their participation in the club.
We recognise our responsibility to ensure the highest standard of care for all participants, including Youth and Junior riders. Everyone involved in the club is responsible for upholding this belief.
The club adheres to British Cycling’s standards of good practice, policies, and procedures. We are committed to safeguarding all members, including young people, disabled individuals, and vulnerable adults. The club implements policies and procedures to protect all members, requiring coaches, participants, and parents/carers to adopt and follow these guidelines. We recruit, train, and supervise our coaches and volunteers to ensure best practice in safeguarding young people and protecting against false allegations.
London Dynamo has an appointed Welfare Officer responsible for ensuring that we comply with British Cycling’s requirements. The Welfare Officer communicates these requirements to members, coaches, parents, and children and advises the committee on safeguarding best practices for children and vulnerable adults involved in the club’s activities.
A child is defined as anyone under the age of 18. Adults responsible for children in the absence of a parent or guardian must exercise reasonable care at all times. Child protection is a shared responsibility, and children have the right to voice their opinions on matters that affect them.
Our registered Welfare Officer for London Dynamo is Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checked and has completed the necessary training as required by British Cycling. If you have any concerns regarding the welfare of anyone involved in the club’s activities, you can contact us. All conversations will be treated confidentially. Details of all current committee members including the Welfare Officer are to be found here.
The Welfare Officer’s role is advisory and is not meant to replace the responsibilities of parents, guardians, or carers. The final decision regarding approval of activities or events involving young people or adults at risk remains with the club’s committee.
